Graduate Fellow Mentoring

Science Partners in Inquiry-based Collaborative Education

During the first year in SPICE as a Type I fellow, graduate fellows are required to spend an average of 15 hr/wk for 52 weeks teaching in the public schools. This totals 780 hours. Given
15 weeks that school is not in session, Fellows will have 180 hours for which they are paid but are not in the classroom. Accounting for 3 weeks in summer training and planning activities, they will have approximately 60 hours of committed time remaining to average 15 hr/wk for the entire year. Graduate fellows are expected to use these "extra" hours for mentoring activities outside the classroom. These activities include, but are not limited to:
* after-school tutoring
* activities at summer camps
* judging school science fairs
* participation in CPET programs
